US: Investigation reopened into gang rape at Cornell University fraternity

Milan, September 29 (LaPresse) – Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten has reopened the investigation into allegations of gang rape that occurred at a Cornell University fraternity. A woman alleges she was sexually assaulted in 2024 by seven students after being forced to drink alcohol and take drugs. The victim, identified in the lawsuit only by a pseudonym, filed a complaint on September 16, alleging she was sexually assaulted at the Chi Phi fraternity on the Ivy League campus in October 2024, after being forced to snort ketamine, smoke marijuana, and drink alcohol. According to the complaint, the woman was completely incapable of responding while fraternity members sexually assaulted her. Van Houten announced that her office will present the evidence to the grand jury, in response to public questions about why no criminal proceedings were filed following the girl’s complaint. The university said in a statement that it supports the decision to reopen the investigation.
