Naples, 29 Sept. (LaPresse) – Everything is ready for the City of Naples’ bid, featuring the Maradona Stadium, for the 2032 European Football Championship. At the behest of Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, the Naples City Council has in the last few hours authorised, by means of a specific resolution, the allocation of 50 million euros from municipal funds for the redevelopment of the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. These funds, in addition to the €150 million allocated by the Campania Region via CIPESS, “will ensure the necessary financial coverage for the project, in line with the timetable required by the football authorities”, explains the City of Naples. “The Diego Armando Maradona Stadium,” emphasises the statement from the City Council, “represents, for the city of Naples, a place where people come together, a heritage for entire generations and a sporting facility that draws strength from its history. It is the home of the city’s team, the venue for major sporting events of national and international significance, having won two league titles in the last three years. Precisely because of its value, the City Council has approved, through separate measures, the guidelines for the design of works aimed at the regeneration and modernisation of the stadium. In April 2026, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Campania Region and the City of Naples for the implementation of strategic projects for the city and the Maradona Stadium. We are now awaiting the conclusion of the process set out by the FIGC and UEFA.”
