Brussels, 30 Sept. (LaPresse) – Is there a real threat, an escalation that carries the risk of nuclear weapons being used? “No, that is not the case. Putin knows he can never defeat NATO, so I don’t take it too seriously. However, we must, of course, respond and make it clear that NATO is a defensive alliance and that the war in Ukraine and the nuclear threats must come to an end, because they are not at all constructive.” This was stated by NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte whilst speaking at the Euronews Defence & Space Summit 2026. “NATO,” he added, “is much stronger than Russia, so there is no chance whatsoever that they could ever defeat us.”
