Frankfurt (Germany), 30 Sept. (LaPresse) – “One thing is certain: I’ll still be here in 2027.” This was stated by ECB President Christine Lagarde in an interview with the French newspaper La Croix, in response to a question about the possibility of ending her term of office early, which is due to expire in October 2027. “I do not rule out the possibility of stepping down a few months before the end of my term, but I have not announced anything specific,” Lagarde clarified. “So, if I do leave earlier, it will only be a matter of a few months. It won’t change the world,” she added. When asked whether the timing might be influenced by the French presidential elections and the possibility of allowing the current government to have a say in the choice of her successor, Lagarde replied that it would be up to “the French government in office at that time to put forward its preferences and reach an agreement with the other leaders around the table”.
