Trento, 2 Oct. (LaPresse) – “Sandro was a great rival – a lovely bloke and a brilliant player – with different qualities to mine, which meant we were almost always able to play together for the national team. It’s a shame about that final in Mexico in 1970, against Brazil, where I only played the last six minutes. I nearly got on the end of a ball after coming on as a substitute, and if I’d scored, who knows what might have happened. The Ballon d’Or? Lautaro Martinez could win it. That would make Mazzola happy, I’m sure of it.” Gianni Rivera made these comments last night during the final event of the first day of the Trento Sports Festival, which runs until Sunday.
