Rome, 2 Oct. (LaPresse) – ‘Schlein has officially confirmed that there are two options for her: either she stands as the candidate for Prime Minister, or there will be a primary. I believe that, at this stage, the path forward is quite clear and there are no alternatives – it will be the path of the primary, because we must always prioritise democratic participation.’ So said the M5S leader, Giuseppe Conte, on the sidelines of an event in Frosinone. “For me, ‘one person, one vote’ means that it is the citizens who matter, and the vast majority – sixty or seventy per cent – are saying, ‘Enough of this military escalation, of the clamour of weapons.’ They are saying, ‘Enough of rearmament; we want the money to be spent on healthcare, schools, nurseries and education.’ So, for me, they are what matters, and what matters is giving them the prospect of a change in the policies of this Meloni government. Obviously, we will have to work – myself first and foremost, but everyone – with a genuinely united spirit to oust Meloni and completely change policy both domestically and in terms of foreign policy.”
