Turin, 2 Oct. (LaPresse) – “Today, the historical and cultural ties that bind us find their fullest expression in your hospitality, in this splendid setting of the Prince’s Palace, where the influence of the Italian Renaissance is as visible as it is moving. The Principality and Italy are united by centuries of shared history.” This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, during the toast at the official dinner hosted by Prince Albert II of Monaco on the occasion of his state visit to the Principality of Monaco. “There are historical roots linking our coastal lands, which were already key players in the era of the Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans, and from which we have inherited our shared Latin civilisation,” explained Mattarella. “Above all, there is an unbreakable bond forged on the night of 8 January 1297. The daring and shrewdness of the Genoese Francesco Grimaldi not only marked the beginning of the Principality’s long and prosperous history, but also the intertwining of Monegasque and Ligurian history,” he added.
