Washington (US), 4 Oct. (LaPresse/AP) – US President Donald Trump has appointed Jay Clayton, his Director of National Intelligence, to lead a new government task force on artificial intelligence. Trump has dubbed it the “Super Intelligence Force”, as he has sought to rebrand AI as “super intelligence”. The task force will coordinate the federal government’s efforts “to ensure that America continues to lead the world in Super Intelligence – which many believe is more important than the Industrial Revolution and the Internet – and to protect the interests and improve the lives of all Americans”, Trump wrote in a social media post. The task force will involve consumers, public interest groups, religious organisations, providers of critical infrastructure and companies operating in the artificial intelligence sector. Other members of the task force include the Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Andrew Ferguson; Emil Michael, the Pentagon’s Chief Technology Officer; and Scott Kupor, Director of the Office of Personnel Management. The group will report to Trump and his Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles.
