Milan, 4 Oct. (LaPresse) – Hamam al-Hammami, the Omani co-pilot who attempted to crash Flydubai flight 1073, intended to crash the aircraft into Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. This was reported by the Israeli broadcaster Channel 12, according to which Hammami, whilst being questioned in the United Arab Emirates, told investigators that he intended to continue the flight as normal after dismissing the captain. He then planned to obtain all the necessary authorisations for landing and to crash into a building or another aircraft at the airport in Israel. This last-minute diversion would have prevented anyone from raising the alarm and stopping him from carrying out his plan. Hammami had travelled to Ben Gurion Airport several times in recent months whilst flying for Flydubai, whilst planning the attack. In June, he had focused entirely on gathering intelligence. He had intended to carry out the attack in July, but ultimately cancelled his plan at the last minute because he was friends with one of the crew members.
