Milan, Oct. 5 (LaPresse) – “The Meloni government claims that Italians have more money in their pockets, but Istat says the opposite: in the second quarter of 2026, household purchasing power fell by 0.9%, while the tax burden rose to 43.5%, half a percentage point higher than a year ago. The picture is clear. Disposable income grew by just 0.4%, consumption by 1.7%, and the propensity to save fell to 6.7%. Households are spending more because everything costs more, starting with energy and fuel, and to do so they are dipping into their savings. When wages and pensions fail to keep pace with the cost of living, even essential expenses suffer, including healthcare.” This was stated by Angelo Bonelli, Avs MP and co-spokesperson of Europa Verde. “Meloni is leaving the country dependent on gas and the interests of major energy companies and finds billions for weapons, but not for wages, healthcare and utility bills. This is the cost of her choices, and Istat confirms it today: higher taxes, lower purchasing power, less savings,” he concluded.
