Milan, 6 Oct. (LaPresse) – “The approval of the Housing Plan represents an initial response to the needs of communities, but a structural national policy is required, and local authorities must be equipped with concrete tools to manage housing policies, bearing in mind that even the middle class is now struggling to find a home. We need to take measured action that addresses the diverse needs of citizens, from the most vulnerable to students, and from short-term lets to the tourism sector. Finally, we need housing models that make the most of public assets.” Gaetano Manfredi, mayor of Naples and president of ANCI, made these remarks in an interview with *La Repubblica*. “Policies must be integrated and targeted: increasing social housing, providing incentives for young couples to buy or rent, and building vibrant neighbourhoods equipped with services rather than ghettos that are only good for sleeping in,” he stated. Regarding the protests in Spain, Manfredi emphasises: “It will do no one any good to stoke a conflict between landlords and tenants: it is the duty of a modern and progressive country to create the conditions for a shared social contract. Inflation is rising for everyone, and populism creates enemies rather than solutions.”
