Rome, 6 Oct. (LaPresse) – “With the end of the tax rebate of 6.1 euro cents per litre, a full tank of diesel will cost Italians an extra 3.05 euros, providing the state coffers with additional revenue of 220 million euros by the end of the year.” This is according to Adusbef, which has criticised the government’s decision not to continue with excise duty cuts. “From today, the rise in taxation on diesel will result in an extra cost of €3.05 on a 50-litre full tank, all to the benefit of the state coffers which, taking into account average daily diesel sales on roads and motorways, will record additional revenue of around €220 million between now and the end of the year thanks to the end of the tax discount,” states Adusbef. “The decision not to use the extra VAT revenue to reduce prices at the pump is a mistake; it partly undermines the discounts introduced by oil companies and risks triggering a domino effect by impacting retail prices, just as inflation in Italy is experiencing a worrying new surge,” concludes President Antonio Tanza.
