Rome, Oct. 7 (LaPresse) – “The work is not finished and at this stage it also involves discussions with the Commission on how to calculate the budget parameters, taking into account the impact of inflation linked to energy goods. I say this because Italy has put forward a proposal, raising the issue of reflecting how spending dynamics, which is the new target, should be considered, and we believe it cannot simply be based on projected inflation at 2.8%. Rather, it should be based on what can be calculated today. Starting from the principle that we have demonstrated in recent years that we have been even more rigorous in complying with European budget rules, we believe this legitimizes us to raise the issue, obviously together with other countries, of how these rules should in some way be adapted to today’s reality,” Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said in a video link with the annual assembly of Federtrasporto. “We are not calling the general framework into question; we need to consider the relevant factors that in some way shape today’s reality,” the minister added.
