Washington (USA), Oct. 7 (LaPresse) – Donald Trump returns to Texas today for the third visit in a month to campaign for Republican Ken Paxton, who is trailing Democrat James Talarico in a crucial Senate race. Today’s visit is the final stop on Trump’s tour of Republican-majority states (“red states”) to mobilize the party’s electorate, just as polls on the midterm elections show favorable percentages for Democrats. Although Texas has been a Republican stronghold for decades, the GOP is now on the defensive because of Trump’s low approval ratings and voters’ frustration over the economy, the war in Iran and immigration, as well as controversies and scandals that previously involved Paxton, the candidate endorsed by Trump in the primary. Paxton himself, who is the state’s attorney general, is expected to attend the rally scheduled in San Antonio, as is Republican House candidate Carlos De La Cruz, who is engaged in a close race against Democrat Johnny Garcia in the 35th District.
