Milan, 7 Oct. (LaPresse) – “I am very pleased that the convictions relating to the attack on our trade union’s headquarters have been upheld on appeal. This is a ruling of great importance in defence of democracy and the values of our Constitution, almost five years on from the cowardly neo-fascist attack.” Thus CGIL General Secretary Maurizio Landini commented on the decision by the judges of the First Section of the Rome Court of Appeal, in the main case concerning the attack on the CGIL on 9 October 2021, who upheld the seven convictions handed down at first instance. “I would also like,” concluded the CGIL leader, “to express my sincere appreciation for the excellent work carried out by the prosecution and my utmost respect for the decisions of the court.” The charges, depending on the individual’s role, are of complicity in vandalism and incitement to commit a criminal offence.
