Milan, 8 Oct. (LaPresse) – A few days ago, the Pentagon ordered the US Central Command to finalise preparations for the resumption of large-scale combat operations in Iran. This was reported by Axios, citing US officials. The directive did not include a specific date for the start of the attacks, and President Trump has not yet made any final decision. However, US and Israeli sources claim that this could take place before the US mid-term elections and, possibly, before the Israeli elections, which are due to be held a week earlier. Should large-scale combat operations resume, they are expected to include massive air strikes against Iranian energy, infrastructure and nuclear targets, according to the sources. A resumption of the war in the next three or four weeks could influence the mid-term elections, partly because oil prices could rise as a result. “The Department’s task is to develop and present military options to the President,” a Pentagon official told Axios, whilst a White House official stated that Trump has all options available to him at any time. “The United States is in a very strong position, thanks to its control of the Strait of Hormuz and the collapse of the Iranian economy. Iran has been decimated and things will go one of two ways: the easy way or the hard way,” the official said. “President Trump holds all the cards and will do what is best for the United States.”
