Russia, health agency: “Rumours of an alleged second case of plague are false”

Turin, 8 Oct. (LaPresse) – Reports concerning an alleged second case of plague in the Siberian region of Irkutsk are false. This was stated by the Russian health agency Rospotrebnadzor, as quoted by RIA Novosti. “With regard to the false information circulating on social media concerning a second case of the disease in a person who had been in contact with an employee of the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute, who had previously been diagnosed with pneumonia,” the statement reads, “Rospotrebnadzor confirms that this information is false.” The agency clarified that all contacts have completed their period of medical observation. No health issues linked to infection have been identified, and nearly 5,000 laboratory tests have not revealed the presence of any dangerous pathogens.
