Ascoli Piceno, Oct. 8 (LaPresse) – “I don’t follow these rather surreal debates about the date of the vote, also because we talk as if we were going to the polls tomorrow. Ladies and gentlemen, there is a year left until the end of the legislative term, so, as you can see, I am focused on trying to do my job, while others can discuss their political maneuvering.” Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said this while speaking to reporters in Ascoli Piceno. “I am satisfied because, the next time Italians go to the polls, they will be able to choose the party, the coalition, the program, the candidate for prime minister and, after more than 30 years, their member of parliament, because they were not allowed to do so under the previous system when electing Parliament. So, this is a law that simply puts more power in the hands of citizens, guarantees stability – we have seen the advantage it brings – and is a law made for Italy. And I think that is a good thing,” the prime minister said later, following the Chamber of Deputies’ final approval today of the electoral law reform.
