Rome, 8 Oct. (LaPresse) – Argentine prosecutors have sought sentences of up to 12 years in prison for neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, and medical coordinator Nancy Forlini, the team that followed Diego Armando Maradona in the period immediately preceding his death at the age of 60 on November 25, 2020. The highest sentence – writes Clarin – was requested for Leopoldo Luque. According to the prosecution, Luque committed the crime of murder with eventual intent. Prosecutors noted that the man had failed to complete a complete medical record, failed to guarantee admission to a specialized center, and failed to report conditions such as heart failure. “He did everything he could to make things go wrong,” said Deputy Prosecutor Patricio Ferrari. Forlini’s sentence is 10 years, Cosachov’s 8. Prosecutors also asked that the defendants be struck off the medical register for 10 years. Of the seven defendants in the trial, the only one requested to be acquitted was doctor Pedro Di Spagna, while lesser sentences were requested for psychologist Carlos Diaz, medical coordinator Mariano Perroni, and nurse Ricardo Almiron. “The defendants cared very little about the patient’s life,” Ferrari stated during his speech before the judges
