New York (US), 9 Oct. (LaPresse/AP) – A federal immigration officer (ICE) shot and wounded a man of Dominican origin during an arrest in New York, in the course of what the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) described as a “targeted law enforcement operation”. Protesters have denounced the incident as an example of the dangers associated with the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration. The man survived and is in hospital receiving treatment, the agency reported. The incident has sparked outrage amongst some New York politicians, who rushed to the scene to condemn the incident and call for the suspension of federal immigration enforcement operations. In a statement, Mayor Zohran Mamdani described the situation as “unacceptable and extremely serious”, stating that he had contacted President Donald Trump.
