Naples, 9 Oct. (LaPresse) – From aggravated resistance and assault on a public official to attempted murder: these are the offences, of various kinds, with which the anti-establishment activists are charged, for whom the Turin Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested 19 precautionary measures in relation to the clashes that took place on 31 January during the national demonstration against the eviction of the Askatasuna social centre. The State Police have served the suspects with the order setting the date for the preliminary hearing issued by the investigating magistrate, a step preceding the decision on the measures requested by the public prosecutor. At the same time, 14 house searches were carried out in various Italian cities. According to the police account, during the march, over a thousand demonstrators – most of whom were masked and dressed in black – reportedly left the pre-announced route and headed towards the building at number 47, Corso Regina Margherita. For around two hours, they allegedly attacked the police units deployed to protect the building, throwing stones, bottles, explosive devices and other blunt objects, and erecting burning barricades to hinder the officers’ advance. During the clashes, 103 members of the police force were injured, with recovery times of up to 100 days. According to police reports, the demonstrators also set fire to a vehicle belonging to the Turin Mobile Unit whilst an officer was inside, and attacked another officer with kicks and hammer blows after snatching his helmet and shield. Shops, blocks of flats, private cars, banks, street furniture and rubbish bins were also damaged.
