Peshawar (Pakistan), 15 Oct. (LaPresse) – The roof of a private school has collapsed in north-western Pakistan, killing at least 10 children and injuring more than 20 people, an emergency services official has reported. Several children were trapped under the rubble in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, said Bilal Faizi, a spokesperson for the emergency services. He added that rescue workers are clearing the rubble to reach those trapped. In July, the roof of a tuition centre under construction in Lahore collapsed, killing four pupils. Building collapses are common in Pakistan, where building regulations are often loosely enforced. Many structures are built with poor-quality materials and safety standards are frequently ignored to cut costs.
