Brussels, Oct. 16 (LaPresse) – “We supported the energy truce proposed by President Trump, but we have seen that Russia has not respected it, not even for a minute. On the contrary, it has intensified hostilities; therefore, we must increase the pressure. We are working on the 22nd sanctions package. One thing is absolutely clear: we will not lift any sanctions until Russia ends the war.” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said this upon arriving at the European Council, during a press briefing with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European Council President Antonio Costa. She said that discussions would cover “your military needs in financial and budgetary terms, not only for 2026, but also for the following year, 2027.”
