Tirana (Albania), 16 Oct. (LaPresse/AP) – Clashes between demonstrators and police have continued for a fourth consecutive day in Albania as part of the student protests, which in Tirana have joined forces with the wider anti-government movement known as the ‘Flamingos’. Young demonstrators threw stones at the police outside the Ministry of Education. Police, in riot gear, responded with tear gas and water cannons. The so-called ‘Flamingo Movement’, which the students have joined, has been protesting for months against a coastal tourism development linked to Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and is calling for the resignation of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama. The conservative opposition Democratic Party has backed the student protests and called on Rama to appoint a caretaker government to prepare for snap elections.
