Rome, 16 Oct. (LaPresse) – “Italian governments? We need to start thinking about how much of the blame lies with the political parties and how much with us, because someone does vote for them – although I don’t think all politicians are incompetent or cunning. So, drawing a parallel between films and reality, who is to blame? The Prime Minister, the opposition, or those who voted for them? This is the question Italians should be asking themselves, because we have the government and the opposition we deserve.” So said Pierfrancesco Diliberto (Pif) at the Rome Film Festival, where ‘Il ministero dell’Amore’ was screened, in which he plays the lead role, a character whose actions are inspired by an inner government complete with a prime minister and ministers. “In the film, I’m a successful journalist,” he explains, “but I’m still just an ordinary bloke when it comes to relationships and the difficulties of love life. In my own personal government, the party that certainly causes me the most trouble is ‘guilt’ – which is incredibly powerful, even though it isn’t in the majority, by the way. You know those pesky 2 per cent – the small parties? They’re the ones that bring down governments. Well, that’s the ministry I’d avoid in my own inner government, because the only thing I’ve retained from the Catholic faith is a sense of guilt.”
