Brussels, 16 Oct. (LaPresse) – “I am pleased that the European Council’s conclusions include several issues we had raised in recent weeks, including those relating to the document drafted jointly with the Czech Republic on the ETS. There is a reference to the Market Stability Reserve, a reference to ETS2, and to the need to assess the timing and safeguards regarding ETS2; there is also a reference to the revision of the ETS, which is particularly urgent.” This was stated by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at a press conference following the European Council meeting in Brussels. “On a separate note,” she added, “we have simultaneously concluded negotiations with the European Commission on the so-called ‘Utility Bills Decree’, that is, on measures that required approval from the European Commission. It was a long but constructive negotiation that led us to find a solution, and it is very important because this enables us to take action on the formation of electricity prices and on the impact that the cost of gas has on electricity prices. And so, particularly at this time, especially in the current context, it essentially allows us to take action to reduce energy bills. I consider this very important, and I am very pleased with this outcome.”
