Rome, Oct. 17 (LaPresse) – “On behalf of all of Italy and in my own name, I renew my warmest wishes for a peaceful convalescence and a speedy and full recovery.” This is what the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, wrote in a message sent to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV. “Your Holiness, I learned this afternoon of Your discharge from the Gemelli Polyclinic, just days after the surgery You underwent,” the Head of State writes, adding: “On this occasion, I once again join the many expressions of closeness and affection extended to You by ordinary citizens and political leaders from numerous countries. Expressions of great solidarity with Your Holiness and widespread wishes for Your good health have united multitudes of people from all over the world and, certainly, with particular sensitivity, all Catholic communities, which, grateful for the care provided by the medical and healthcare staff assisting You, also find reassurance in the Augustinian exhortation to always maintain confidence, including in recovery from illness and in overcoming difficulties,” Mattarella concludes.
