Paris, Oct. 17 (LaPresse) – “We will not be intimidated. No one will impose their political agenda through violence.” French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu made the statement in a post on X in which he accused “far-left groups” of being responsible for the acts of violence that occurred today on the sidelines of protests against the rising cost of living in several French cities, arguing that they want to use the violence as a prelude to the 2027 presidential election. “Peaceful demonstrations have their rightful place in our Republic. Arson, looting and attacks have no place at all. Today, far-left groups organized acts of violence in several French cities; some criminals joined them to loot and destroy,” Lecornu wrote. “To those who clearly want to turn this violence into a ‘warm-up’ ahead of the presidential election, I say this clearly: we will not be intimidated. No one will impose their political agenda through violence,” he stated, stressing that “the instructions given are clear: prevent acts of violence, protect property and people, arrest those responsible and bring them to justice.”
