Rome, Oct. 22 (LaPresse) – ‘Iris’, a monumental work painted by Claude Monet towards the end of his life, was sold at auction in Paris for €50 million (including fees), becoming, according to Sotheby’s, the most expensive work of art ever sold at auction in France. French media report this. Before the sale, the painting had been estimated at between €22 million and €30 million. The painting (1.60 metres high and 1.80 metres wide) had never left the Paris residence of the Schlumberger family and was known only through a black-and-white photograph.
