Milan, 23 Oct. (LaPresse) – It is neck and neck in Brazil between the outgoing left-wing President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and far-right Senator Flavio Bolsonaro ahead of the presidential run-off, scheduled for Sunday 25 October. A poll by the Datafolha institute, commissioned by Globo and Folha de S.Paulo, carried out between 20 and 22 October and published on Thursday local time, shows the two candidates tied at 50 per cent in voting intentions, taking into account only valid votes – that is, excluding blank, spoilt and undecided votes. The number of valid votes is the figure used by the electoral court to determine the election results. When blank, invalid and undecided votes are also taken into account, Bolsonaro stands at 47 per cent and Lula at 46 per cent, meaning the two are in what is termed a ‘technical tie’. The margin of error is in fact 2 per cent. The poll’s confidence level is considered to be 95 per cent. For the survey, 2,154 people aged 16 and over were interviewed.
