Milan, 26 Oct. (LaPresse) – “Luna Rossa has signed an agreement for Francesco Bruni to join Tudor Team Alinghi. We wish Francesco Bruni all the best for this new adventure.” This is according to a statement from Luna Rossa. Bruni is a seasoned sailor who has taken part in three Olympic Games and five America’s Cup campaigns during his career. He was also runner-up in the Moth class world championship. Bruni raced with Luna Rossa in the 2003 and 2007 Louis Vuitton Cups. He led the Azzurra team during the 2009 and 2010 Louis Vuitton Trophy events, before returning to Luna Rossa for the 2013 Louis Vuitton Cup. When Luna Rossa withdrew from the 2017 America’s Cup, Bruni joined Artemis Racing. Alongside James Spithill, after winning the Prada Cup, he served as helmsman for Luna Rossa in the 2021 America’s Cup. Although the role was shared, he is the first non-Anglo-Saxon helmsman to win a race in the competition. Luna Rossa is the challenger with the most appearances in the America’s Cup. The team was founded in 1997 by Patrizio Bertelli to compete in the 307th edition in 2000. Since then, it has taken part in six editions of the event, winning the Challenger Selection Series twice (the 2000 Louis Vuitton Cup and the 2021 PRADA Cup) and reaching the finals in 2007, 2013 and 2024 as well. Luna Rossa represents the Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia yacht club in the challenge for the 38th edition of the America’s Cup, to be held in Naples, Italy, in 2027.
