Frankfurt (Germany), May 5 (LaPresse) – German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has officially proposed to the Bundestag the election of CDU leader Friedrich Merz as Federal Chancellor. The announcement was made by the German Presidential Office. "In a letter dated today, the Federal President proposed to the German Bundestag, pursuant to Article 63, Paragraph 1 of the Constitution, to elect Mr. Friedrich Merz as Federal Chancellor," said Steinmeier’s spokesperson, Cerstin Gammelin.
