Reggio Emilia, Oct. 27 (LaPresse) – Eight goals, one red card and two missed penalties: Lazio thrash Sassuolo 6-2 at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia in the opening match of the ninth round of Serie A, remaining top of the table. Gattuso’s Biancocelesti move up to 25 points (eight wins and one draw), three ahead of Inter, who will play away to bottom-placed Venezia tomorrow. The match bursts into life immediately: Taylor puts Lazio ahead in the 2nd minute, and Thorstvedt equalizes in the 7th. This exchange is only the beginning of a thrilling first half. Isaksen in the 13th minute and Floriani in the 16th extend Lazio’s lead, then Sassuolo lose Thorstvedt to a red card in the 31st minute and are reduced to ten men. Aquilani’s Neroverdi refuse to give up, and Sebastiano Esposito pulls one back in the 43rd minute, but Zaccagni restores the two-goal cushion in stoppage time: the score is already 4-2 at halftime. The second half is just as eventful. Zaccagni misses a penalty in the 50th minute, then Noslin makes it five in the 55th. Lazio waste another spot-kick opportunity through Frattesi in the 61st minute, but four minutes later Noslin scores again: his second goal of the match seals the final 6-2 victory.
