Jerusalem, 28 Oct. (LaPresse) – Israeli President Isaac Herzog has urged political parties to do everything possible to avoid new elections. “We must do everything possible, especially after yesterday, to avoid another round of elections. I therefore expect anyone who comes here to do so with an open mind”, Herzog said during a meeting at the Presidential Residence in Jerusalem, according to the Times of Israel. Herzog said he expects to receive the official election results next week from Supreme Court Justice Noam Sohlberg, after which he will begin consultations with the parties on forming a new government. The president then praised the high voter turnout, describing it as a “mark of honour for Israeli society”, and saying it demonstrates the depth of citizens’ “desire for democracy”.
