Rome, 29 Oct. (LaPresse) – The Ministry of the Interior has announced a “comprehensive plan” to “safeguard the right to peaceful protest, ensure the safety of the whole community, and isolate those who take to the streets solely to cause disorder and commit acts of violence” ahead of the street demonstrations scheduled for the weekend. This is stated in a press release from the Ministry of the Interior following a meeting chaired today by Minister Matteo Piantedosi, held via videoconference with prefects, police chiefs and senior police officers from all regional capitals. During the meeting, “a detailed analysis of the street demonstrations scheduled for the weekend was shared”. In particular, the scenarios that may arise in the most sensitive areas of the cities affected by potential protests and demonstrations were analysed. “The police forces, together with reinforcements provided by the Ministry of the Interior and coordinated by the provincial public security authorities, will ensure comprehensive coverage of the territory to manage the numerous events scheduled,” reads the Ministry’s statement, which also refers to “ongoing monitoring carried out by the intelligence services and police investigators”. During the meeting, Piantedosi reiterated his appreciation “for the commitment of all law enforcement officers who, even in recent weeks – as they have always done in the past – have once again demonstrated their ability to manage highly complex situations with intelligence, professionalism and balance”.
