Rome, 29 Oct. (LaPresse) – “A budget that is completely inadequate to meet people’s needs. It is unfair and continues to allocate funds to defence whilst cutting funding for healthcare; it does nothing to address housing or rents, and continues to burden employees and pensioners with taxes by failing to refund 4.5 billion in tax drag, even going so far as to introduce new flat taxes that widen the wealth gap. In a normal country, equal income should mean equal taxation; tax evasion must be combated and true progressive taxation introduced, including on profits and investment income. That is what we need, which is why the reasons for the general strike on 20 November are even stronger, as are the reasons behind the struggles of young people and students who are demanding a future for themselves.” So said CGIL Secretary Maurizio Landini on the sidelines of a conference on the law against illegal labour recruitment, currently taking place in the Chamber of Deputies.
