Turin, 29 Oct. (LaPresse) – The Shin Bet has stated that the information regarding suspected electoral fraud during the elections stems from intelligence operations conducted in relation to foreign interference, and not from “any political party or political actor, on either side of the political spectrum”. In a statement, the Israeli intelligence agency said it had not yet completed its investigations, adding that “any statement regarding the content or nature of the suspicions does not reflect the agency’s position”. Following allegations that Qatar had transferred large sums of money to influence the Arab vote, the Shin Bet emphasised that the investigation is “targeted and limited in scope, and does not discredit or level accusations against an entire section of the population who went to the polls to exercise their right to vote in a democratic and lawful manner”. “Only those who have acted in breach of the law will be prosecuted,” the agency stated, confirming that, on the previous day, Shin Bet chief David Zini had met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Yashar party leader Gadi Eisenkot and opposition leader Yair Lapid to brief them personally on the main allegations at the heart of the investigation.
