Frankfurt (Germany), 31 Oct. (LaPresse) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has responded to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who had estimated that Europe had incurred additional energy costs of over 100 billion euros as a result of the war with Iran over the past eight months. In a post on X, Araghchi recalled Merz’s previous statements in support of Israeli military operations against Tehran, warning that any further attacks would have even more severe consequences. Araghchi noted that Merz had ‘praised’ the US and Israeli operations against Iran in June last year, stating on that occasion: ‘This is the dirty work that Israel is doing for all of us’. “100 billion euros is nothing compared to the devastating blow that Iran’s powerful armed forces will inflict on anyone who dares to harm our people,” the minister wrote, adding that “red lines are a thing of the past”. On Friday, Iran’s national security chief, Mohsen Rezaei, had also criticised European concerns over rising energy costs. “When you were applauding war crimes, did you not think the consequences would affect you too?”, he wrote on X.
