Frankfurt (Germany), 3 Nov. (LaPresse) – “We will not invite Putin to Kyiv.” This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, responding to a question about the possibility of a telephone conversation with the Russian president and negotiations to end the war during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin. “In 2022, the Russians came to us uninvited, and there is no point in inviting Putin to Kyiv, because he won’t come,” Zelensky said. “And an invitation that is not accepted is just as destructive as an invitation to Moscow. That is what Moscow does. That is why nobody wants to go to Moscow,” he added. As for the possibility of a phone call with Putin, Zelensky said that “Russia will undoubtedly exploit it as an opportunity to stop organising further meetings and to stop sitting down to talk”. “It will be an official and cold phone call, during which I will have to listen to yet another history lesson from the President of the Russian Federation,” he observed. “To end the war, we must meet and take the first step: a ceasefire,” Zelensky concluded.
