Frankfurt (Germany), 4 Nov. (LaPresse) – The Netherlands has nominated the former president of the Dutch central bank, Klaas Knot, to head the European Central Bank. Finance Minister Eelco Heinen announced this to the Dutch Parliament in The Hague, as reported by DPA. The post will become vacant after the current President, Christine Lagarde, announced her early resignation, effective in February. Knot, 59, led the Dutch central bank from 2011 to 2025 and is considered one of the favourites to succeed her. The candidates also include Pablo Hernández de Cos from Spain. Eurozone countries must officially submit their nominations by Friday; the matter will be discussed next week. The President of the Bundesbank, Joachim Nagel, has also expressed interest in leading the ECB, but his chances are considered slim.
