Rome, 6 Nov. (LaPresse) – When asked whether he had expected the government to challenge the Veneto region’s end-of-life care law, Regional Council President Luca Zaia replied firmly: “Certainly. But I don’t see it as an ideological choice. Given the precedents, all these regional laws will be challenged.” Yet, in an interview with *Corriere della Sera*, he reiterates that what was passed in Veneto does not contravene the Constitution: “The Veneto law fully complies with the Constitution because it takes into account all the Constitutional Court’s rulings on the matter,” emphasises the Northern League politician, who has always been a supporter of the end-of-life law. On each occasion, the Constitutional Court has issued ad hoc guidelines. In Veneto, we have taken these into account.” As for the decision taken by the Council of Ministers, “the challenge is legitimate in itself, but the decision by the League ministers not to support the initiative is also legitimate.”
