Frankfurt (Germany), Nov. 6 (LaPresse) – “Consultations on the succession to the ECB presidency and the renewal of the members of the Executive Board are ongoing”. German government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius said this during a press conference in Berlin, responding to a question about the possibility of Germany putting forward its own candidate to succeed the head of the Eurotower or supporting another candidate. “Consultations are taking place with our partners and also within the federal government”, Kornelius explained, clarifying that Berlin would not announce a decision during the press conference. “I will be happy to communicate it once the consultations have been concluded”, he added. Asked whether the decision would come by today, coinciding with the 5 p.m. deadline for submitting candidacies, the spokesperson clarified that “the consultations do not end with the deadline”. The deadline for submitting candidacies, he added, “can also be extended”. Kornelius finally recalled that, over the coming weeks and months, there will be several opportunities to define the field of candidates as part of the European consultations.
