Rome, Nov. 6 (LaPresse) – “There is no doubt that Europe is now facing a new crossroads in its history and must choose to assume broader responsibilities in international affairs”. Italian President Sergio Mattarella said this while greeting the delegation of the Nizami Ganjavi Foundation, which he received today at the Quirinal Palace. “The current situation is far from straightforward and at times appears unprecedented, marked by the brutal aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the worsening of conflicts in the Middle East, the resurgence of numerous crises, sometimes forgotten, in other parts of the world, while serious claims to domination are once again emerging”, the Head of State added. “Authoritative international institutions, forums where dialogue can develop freely, on an equal footing and in depth, must once again find an effective and respected role in international affairs. Multilateralism and international law, founded on equality among all peoples, must form the basis for the peaceful resolution of every dispute in this way. Meeting one another means accepting that the other has something to say to us, something that can benefit us. From this recognition comes a shared responsibility, and from this responsibility the strength to guide events in the best possible direction can emerge”, Mattarella concluded.
