Washington (USA), Nov. 7 (LaPresse) – US Vice President JD Vance has been personally involved over the past two weeks in indirect talks with Iran, with the aim of reaching a new ceasefire and resuming nuclear negotiations. Axios reports this, citing two sources familiar with the matter. This confirms that Vance is personally taking the initiative to extricate the United States from a conflict which, in his view, contributed to the Republican Party’s heavy defeat in the midterm elections. His role also brings the latest round of indirect talks to the highest levels of the US administration. According to US officials and regional sources, Trump is currently willing to let diplomatic efforts run their course and wants to see whether an agreement of any kind can be reached. According to sources directly familiar with the negotiations, Vance is in almost daily contact with Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Pakistani Army Chief of Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, and other mediators involved in talks with Tehran. White House envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Trump’s adviser and son-in-law, are also involved. Vance and the Qatari and Pakistani mediators, sources told Axios, are discussing the possibility of organising a technical-level working meeting between the United States and Iran in the coming days. However, the meeting has not yet been arranged.
