Milan, 8 Nov. (LaPresse) – Olimpia Milano has officially appointed Luca Banchi as the team’s new head coach. The 61-year-old Tuscan coach takes over from Peppe Poeta, who was sacked two days ago, and returns to the red-and-white bench after more than ten years. Banchi had previously managed the club from 2013 to 2015, winning the club’s 26th league title in his first season. The contract is a multi-year deal and allows him to retain his role as head coach of the Italian national team, thanks to an agreement with the Federation. Banchi will therefore lead the Azzurri in the World Cup qualifiers at the end of November, against Turkey in Rome and Serbia in Belgrade. “I am honoured to return to Milan. I am approaching this new challenge with enthusiasm and determination,” said the new coach, thanking the club and acknowledging the work of his predecessor, Poeta.
