Rome, Mar 8 (LaPresse) – In London, police were called to the Palace of Westminster after a man was spotted climbing the tower that houses Big Ben.
As reported by Sky News, a video circulating on social media shows a barefoot man standing on a ledge several meters up on the Elizabeth Tower, holding a Palestinian flag.
Police stated they were called to the scene at 7:24 AM (local time) this morning. A fire truck has now raised an aerial platform to the height of the man’s position on the tower, several meters above the ground.
"Officers are on the scene and are working to bring the incident to a safe conclusion. They are being assisted by the London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service," a police spokesperson said.
Bridge Street, at the north end of Westminster Bridge, has been closed to allow emergency services to manage the incident, police confirmed.
