Skiing: World Cup, Brignone Wins Giant Slalom in Åre, Goggia Misses Podium

Milan, Mar 8 (LaPresse) – A spectacular Federica Brignone claimed victory in the women’s giant slalom in Åre, the final World Cup race in the discipline before the Sun Valley finals.

The Italian, leader of the overall standings and already in first place after the first run, clocked 1:52.67, finishing ahead of New Zealand’s Alice Robinson (+1.36) and Italian-Albanian skier Lara Colturi (+1.43).

Disappointment for Sofia Goggia, who was in contention for the podium but dropped to 28th and last place due to a mistake, finishing +8 seconds behind.

For Brignone, this marks her 81st career podium, 36th victory, and ninth win of the season. The Carabinieri Vice Brigadier also extends her lead in the overall World Cup standings over Swiss skier Lara Gut-Behrami, who finished ninth today at +2.52.
