Snowboarding: Bormolini finishes 2nd in Krynica parallel and wins the World Cup

Milan, March 2 (LaPresse) – Maurizio Bormolini finished second in the final parallel giant slalom of the season and mathematically secured the Snowboard World Cup title. In the second race of the Krynica stage, the final event of the PGS season, the athlete from Livigno was only beaten by Austrian Andreas Prommegger. After claiming the specialty cup yesterday, Bormolini can now celebrate his overall World Cup victory today.

Only six hundredths of a second separated Bormolini from a perfect day: in the decisive run, Prommegger came from behind to win, but for the Italian, it still marked his seventh podium of the season and his 17th overall in individual events during his career. These numbers highlight an incredible winter for the 31-year-old Army athlete, who has reached the top of the podium three times, along with two second and two third-place finishes.

His path was also highlighted by his World Cup success: with just the Winterberg slalom left to go, Bormolini leads the overall standings with 850 points, ahead of Prommegger's 699 points. Meanwhile, in the PGS standings, Bormolini won with 612 points, ahead of Bulgarian Yankov (455 points) and Edwin Coratti, who finished third with 398 points.

Bormolini’s seventh podium of the season was achieved in the semifinals, where he won against Korean Kim. During the competition, he had already beaten Canadian Ben Heldman in the round of 16 and Daniele Bagozza in the quarterfinals. The third place went to Kim, who defeated Bulgarian Tervel Zamfirov in the small final.
