Rome, Mar 8 (LaPresse) – The United States has informed its allies of its intention to cease participation in the planning of upcoming military exercises in Europe. Specifically, this decision will impact several drills in Sweden, according to the Swedish newspaper Expressen, as reported by RBC Ukraine.
"There is little information available, but the U.S. plays a crucial role in the overall planning of military exercises in Europe and, consequently, in the defense of the European continent," Expressen writes, citing sources that indicate the U.S. withdrawal from planning does not apply to exercises scheduled for 2025.
Meanwhile, according to The Telegraph, former U.S. President Donald Trump is considering withdrawing approximately 35,000 active-duty troops stationed in Germany and relocating them to Eastern Europe. Around 160,000 active-duty U.S. troops are stationed overseas, many of them in Germany.
According to The Telegraph, Trump is evaluating the possibility of moving troops from Germany to Hungary, a country that has maintained close ties with Russia. Additionally, the U.S. president is considering repositioning some American troops in Europe, concentrating them in NATO countries that have increased defense spending to meet GDP targets.
