Milan, 20 May (LaPresse) – According to recent satellite images analysed by the New York Times, Russian forces are strengthening bases and building military infrastructure near the border with Finland, ‘in a move that could reveal their post-war strategy in Ukraine’. The images analysed, confirmed by NATO officials, according to the US newspaper, show rows and rows of new tents, new warehouses capable of housing military vehicles, renovation work on fighter jet shelters and constant construction activity at a helicopter base that had remained largely unused and overgrown. ‘So far, the moves appear to be the early stages of a broader, longer-term expansion, and NATO officials say they are nothing like the build-up along the Ukrainian border before Russia's large-scale invasion in 2022,’ writes the NYT.
